Say it right!

Here are a few things I (or any English teacher) don't want to hear or read any more:

Don't say: We have differents opinions.
Say: We have DIFFERENT opinions.

Don't say: He said me that he would be late.
Say: He TOLD ME that he would be late.

Don't say: I go to the school in Utebo for learn / for to learn / for learning English.
Say: I go to the school in Utebo TO LEARN English.

Don't say: I like go to the cinema on Sundays.
Say: I like GOING / TO GO to the cinema on Sundays.

And of course don't forget this and this.

Today I'll be in the school in the afternoon/evening, if you have any last-minute questions.

Cheers!

Writing a strong paragraph

Have I ever mentioned paragraphs in class? Have I?

Have a look at this video. It looks like a hamburger, but it's a paragraph!

REMEMBER: we don't change line within a paragraph; we only change line when we start a new paragraph.

If you need to remember the different types of texts we've done, click here or see the corresponding sections in your book.

You might also want to try this.

Tip number 3: agreeing and disagreeing

A tip for the oral exam

Remember, don't say "I recognise"; say "I ADMIT".

Take it from the Beatles! Listen and read the lyrics below.

It's getting better all the time

I used to get mad at my school (No I can't complain)
The teachers who taught me weren't cool (No I can't complain)
You're holding me down (Oh), turning me round (Oh)
Filling me up with your rules (Foolish rules)

I've got to admit it's getting better (Better)
A little better all the time (It can't get no worse)
I have to admit it's getting better (Better)
It's getting better since you've been mine

Me used to be angry young man
Me hiding me head in the sand
You gave me the word, I finally heard
I'm doing the best that I can

I've got to admit it's getting better (Better)
A little better all the time (It can't get no worse)
I have to admit it's getting better (Better)
It's getting better since you've been mine
Getting so much better all the time
It's getting better all the time
Better, better, better
It's getting better all the time
Better, better, better

I used to be cruel to my woman
I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved
Man I was mean but I'm changing my scene
And I'm doing the best that I can (Ooh)

I admit it's getting better (Better)
A little better all the time (It can't get no worse)
Yes I admit it's getting better (Better)
It's getting better since you've been mine
Getting so much better all the time
It's getting better all the time
Better, better, better
It's getting better all the time
Better, better, better
Getting so much better all the time
